Chanel No.5 Still The Most Popular Fragrance

There isn’t a single woman that has not heard of Chanel fragrance, Chanel No.5. To say Chanel No.5 is the best fragrance is an understatement. It is the queen of all perfumes. And all credits go to the Great Duke Dmitri of Russia.

In 1921, Chanel was already a popular French fashion house. Coco owned few successful boutiques in Paris, but as ambitious as she was, this was not satisfying for her. She knew she could achieve much more. While vacationing in Monte Carlo, Coco, together with her friend the great Duke, got an amazing idea to create a fragrance that will stand out from all the floral ones that ruled the fashion world at the time. She wanted something that will change fashion while at the same time present her brand. Coco asked Ernest Beaux, a popular textile baron, to create a fragrance.

In order to fulfill her wish, Beaux created few sample perfumes and Coco chose the fifth sample since number 5 was her lucky number. This is the reason she decided to name the fragrance Chanel No.5. Beaux used 80 ingredients including a may rose that grows in Grasse for three weeks each year, neroli, sandalwood, and aldehydes to make this one-of-a-kind fragrance. Chanel No.5 was one the first perfumes to contain aldehydes. This is exactly what made this Chanel fragrance stand out from the fragrances available at the time.

Ernest created a fresh fragrance that reminds of the of clean linen and the smell of water in midnight. He adored the smell of frozen lakes and rivers, so he wanted to capture all that in a small bottle and did an amazing job. Because here we are, ninety years later and Chanel No.5 still is the most popular fragrance among women. And not just because of Merlin Monroe’s famous statement that she wears nothing to bed but No.5, but also because this floral fragrance represents a classic beauty.

Women of all generations love this amazing Chanel fragrance that delights with its unique notes of bergamot, lemon, ylang-ylang and a hint of rose, lily, jasmine, valley and iris. According to Coco, ”a woman should wear perfume whenever she wants to be kissed”. Luckily, Chanel No.5 fits anytime and anywhere situation and is today available in almost every form, from classic eau de toilette to a limited edition hair mist.
